Family photoshoots in Japan

Private sessions built around your family, and not templates. Photographers skilled with specific family formations.

Our approach to families

Every family is different. We plan for yours.

A family with a newborn needs something very different from one with teenagers. The location that works beautifully for young children would exhaust a baby. The timing that suits an elderly grandparent is not the same as what works for a toddler who needs a nap by noon.

Before your session, we talk through your family — who is coming, their ages, what makes them comfortable, and what you are hoping to capture. Then we plan around that, not the other way around.

👶

Babies

Short sessions close to sleep windows, comfortable pacing, locations with easy access.

🧒

Toddlers

Active, unpredictable, and absolutely perfect. We follow their energy instead of fighting it.

🧒‍♀️

Young children

Old enough to take direction, young enough to still be completely themselves.

🧑

Teens

We keep it low-key. No forced smiles, no group poses they will cringe at later.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Adult children

More like a group session. Relaxed, conversational, with the family dynamic front and centre.

👴👵

Multigenerational

Multiple ages, mobility considerations, and a lot of love. We handle the logistics.

Tell us who is coming when you book. The more we know, the better we can plan your session.

Our craft

Real moments, not studio smiles

Families are not still. They move, they laugh, they argue, they hug. We photograph all of it — with patience, with humour, and with the experience to know when to step back and let things happen.

Candid by default

The best family photos happen between the posed ones.

Kids friendly pace

Sessions tailored to follow the younger ones' rhythms.

Family locations

We suggest spots based on your family, not a formula.

Edited naturally

Natural colours, timeless edits. Your family as they really are.

How it works

From your first message to your gallery in hand

  1. 1

    Tell us about your family

Choose your destination, session length, and photographer. Let us know who is coming — ages, mobility, nap schedules, anything that helps us plan.

  2. 2

    Plan together

Your photographer will reach out before the session. We build the plan around your family, not a standard itinerary.

  3. 3

Meet your photographer and explore together. Relaxed, with breaks built in. The best family photos happen when nobody is trying too hard.

  4. 4

"We did another shoot in Perth after yours in Kyoto, and I have to say your photos are still our favorite! You made the entire experience all very natural, candid, and comfortable, and the photos are sharp and beautiful. When we return to Japan, I'll be sure to contact you again! I'll definitely recommend you to friends or family who are looking for a photographer in Japan too."

"Thank you so much for the gallery - I've sent it over to my sister and parents and we all love it so much :) We have already changed our phone backgrounds and lock screens with these photos. Thank you for so many extra photos!! The fall colors turned out beautiful, and we love all the different scenery and backgrounds. All of them are so beautiful. Thank you SO much again - you've helped us create such wonderful memories that we'll treasure, especially since we don't all see each other that often with us being abroad."

"Just looked through the photos, we love them - particularly those around the duplex! Amazing how you managed to capture these split-second moments (like how she stuck out her tongue). Thank you for including the image of her bear pajamas too - she can't fit into that anymore 😭. Keep doing what you do, may our paths cross again!"

Family photoshoot FAQ

The most common questions about booking a family session in Japan.

Up to 10 guests per session. The base price covers up to 5 people. For groups of 6 or more, an additional 7,500 yen per person applies. Let us know your headcount when you book and we will confirm the total before any payment is made.

Yes, and it is genuinely one of our favourite things to do. We tell parents not to worry about their children behaving perfectly — the energy, the movement, the chaos is often where the best photos come from. We keep sessions flexible, build in breaks, and work at a pace that suits your children.

For families with young children, one hour tends to be the sweet spot — enough time for everyone to settle in without anyone running out of energy. Two hours gives you more variety in locations and a wider selection of photos. For larger or multigenerational groups, we generally recommend at least an hour.

Yes. You can browse profiles and choose the photographer whose style and personality feels right for your family. If you would prefer a recommendation, tell us about your group and we will suggest someone whose approach is a good match.

Please let us know when you book. We will plan locations accordingly — flat paths, accessible entrances, shorter walking distances. Japan has many beautiful spots that are also practically accessible, and we know where they are.

Edited photos are delivered within 5 to 7 business days via a private online gallery. You will receive a link with full resolution downloads — ready to print, share, and keep.
